Project Brief

From 2023 through 2024, StratSol led the design and execution of multiple traffic safety studies under the direction of the Puerto Rico Traffic Safety Commission. These included population-wide surveys as well as observational research methodologies at intersections, highways, and urban areas. Our team collected and analyzed data on behavioral trends related to seat belt use, mobile phone use while driving, drunk driving, and child passenger safety. The findings not only supported federal reporting requirements but also provided local authorities with actionable intelligence to shape policy, public messaging, and traffic enforcement plans. StratSol delivered clear, visually compelling reports that enabled the agency to better understand and address the behaviors driving traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

key Findings

  • Identified trends in noncompliance with seat belt use among rear-seat passengers and younger drivers.
  • Observed high rates of distracted driving, particularly involving mobile phone usage among drivers under 40.
  • Pinpointed gaps in public awareness of child safety seat laws and observed widespread misuse.
  • Revealed demographic and geographic patterns in DUI risk perception and self-reported behavior.
  • Provided comparative year-over-year data to measure the impact of ongoing awareness and enforcement campaigns.

Our Role

  • Designed survey instruments and observational protocols in line with NHTSA best practices.
  • Conducted island-wide survey execution.
  • Performed statistical analysis of behavior prevalence, risk factors, and regional differences.
  • Delivered public-facing summary reports as well as technical documentation for federal compliance.
  • Supported the Traffic Safety Commission with data interpretation and strategic policy recommendations.
